How To Release The Past
Do you find yourself thinking back to situations from your past?
Are you tying yourself up in knots thinking about something that happened weeks, months or years ago?
Whether it was an argument, someone you once cared for deeply or a situation that threw you off balance, these memories can easily distract you from moving forward towards your vision.
Is your past holding you back?
The past can have a detrimental effect on your future. If you are not moving forward at the pace you want, chances are there is something that is blocking you.
First thing to ask yourself is: am I ready to let go and move forward?
If you are, read on!
Follow these guidelines to release the past.
- Take the time to reflect. Regularly. Build this in to your early morning ritual.
During these moments of reflection think about those times in your life that have impacted on you and that go through your mind.
Take one moment in your life at a time. Free write how you feel about that situation and what you remember. Write down the emotions that were present at the time and what it stirs up inside you when you reflect on it now. Keep writing until you naturally run out of things to say about the situation.
Throughout this whole process it is fundamental that you trust yourself. Follow your intuition and be guided by it when you are free writing.
The aim here is to heal, learn, grow. This will expand yourself and your experience.
- After you have free-written on the situation, close your eyes and visualise the situation you have written about.
Imagine seeing the situation bundled into the inside of a balloon, which is attached to your arm by a thin cord.
When you are ready, cut the cord that holds the balloon to you and watch it float away into the air, away from you.
Watch it rise up into the sky and float away from you.
As you watch it float away from you, note how you feel. Pay attention to any shifts in your energy, your mindset or your outlook on the situation.
Cutting the cord in this way releases your attachment within your subconscious mind.
- If you want to go deeper into processing and releasing the past, spend time journalling on the following:
– What doesn’t serve me any more?
– Where am I running away in my life?
– Where am I playing small?
– What are my barriers to moving forward?
– If I weren’t afraid, I would….
– And lastly, name your fears. By naming them you take away their power.
Your past doesn’t have to have a tight grip on you. Learn from it and heal yourself.
Once you have gleamed the gems from those moments, release them and thank them for their lessons.
By processing and subsequently releasing the past, you will take back control and notice momentum builds to take you forward. Forward into the life you have in your vision.
